The Tactile Sense (Touch)

Play Video

In this video Karen explains how children with tactile processing difficulties can have difficulty with speech, language, play, interaction and social engagement with other children.

She describes how children with tactile processing difficulties can overreact or underreact to touch experiences by either having meltdowns or not reacting at all. Children with tactile processing difficulties can really dislike hugs and kisses, wanting touch on their own terms, dislike airbrushing, haircutting, showers etc. They may dislike tags on their clothes and want to remove them. Alternatively children with tactile processing difficulties can seek lots of crashing and bumping into things to get the deep pressure that they need.

Karen explains the best techniques to help children with any of the above tactile processing difficulties so that they can process tactile information in a much better way.
